School-Based Consultation

K-12 Services: The CCP Direct Services and Outreach Team partners with K-12 schools in northern Colorado, providing consultation regarding school-based supports for youth with disabilities, including brain injury. Consultation includes guidance in identifying and putting in place classroom accommodations, adaptations and student compensatory strategies that will promote education achievement for students with disabilities and learning challenges. CCP Staff may also work closely with family members as school-based services are provided, assisting with carry-over of educational and social skill development in the home and community environments.

College Services: CCP Direct Services and Outreach staff also work with college students with brain injury and/or significant learning disabilities, including students with Autism Spectrum Disorders assisting them with transition to college and academic adjustment, special emphasis is placed on self-advocacy, study skills, organization skills, and compensatory strategies that lead to improved academic success. Upon request and when resources are available, college students with disabilities may have the opportunity to receive mentoring from an occupational therapy fieldwork student. The occupational therapy student mentor will help connect the student to available resources at CSU. In addition, the mentor will help the student develop study and organization strategies and apply these skills to the current semester coursework requirements.

Educational Consultation: CCP Direct Services and Outreach staff provide consultative and educational services for schools, agencies and programs that serve individuals with brain injury. Consultative services and educational seminars focus on brain injury prevention, as well as the manifestation of brain injury, signs and symptoms, early identification, support strategies, and suggested adaptations and accommodations that promote successful re-entry into school and the community.
